Dear Friend,
The delusion that we are only transient phenomena with an
assigned value is our fundamental ignorance of the Buddha nature. Chanting “Nam
Myoho Renge Kyo” opens the Buddha nature that has always existed within us. In each moment, we must realize the eternal
aspect of Buddhahood chanting “Nam Myoho Renge Kyo” as we reveal the
immeasurable good fortune of this single moment of life.
Transmitted Teachings says: The all-important means to escape [from the realm of birth and death] is Nam-myoho-renge-kyo. And the means that leads one to escape is the mind of faith. Now the reason that Nichiren and his followers are able to avoid and be free from poverty and want is that they accept and uphold the Lotus Sutra. Again we may say that, when one encounters the Wonderful Law, one awakens to the fact that the fires of the eight sufferings that attend earthly desires are the wisdom fire of the Buddha of limitless joy.” [The Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings]Chapter Four: Belief and Understanding (p.57) http://www.nichirenlibrary.org
We mustn’t separate this single moment in any way from chanting
“Nam Myoho Renge Kyo.” Seek to merge the delusions of birth and death with
original enlightenment and manifest the Buddha of limitless joy. Putting aside
all deprecation of living beings and the environment of life, we chant “Nam
Myoho Renge Kyo” in every moment, un-swayed by any and all obstacles.
Truly yours,
Tho Tsu 1/7/2016
